Can i use Static variable in my project

Hi,
i have create one class in my Project..instead of storing  Session 
CAN I STORE VALUE IN STATIC CLASS??
public class sess
{
PUBLIC STATIC STRING ID="";--any problems  il occur to store value in this????
}
