Taking the next step in Web Development

Hi,

having moved from ASP.Net web forms to creating C# Applications i'm now moving back to creating a web site for myself. I want to take the next step in web development. I have a idea for a business but it requires a html5 dashboard template which i have and i'll be using Umbraco as the framework which i'm familiar with. What i'm looking for is a in-depth tutorial or video walkthrough on how to get up to speed with the current user expectations for a website. with the Dashboard template i can use all sorts of announcements and actions that pop up on screen and would like to be able to use these, as well as real time website traffic updates.
Does anyone have any information that can help me get up to speed with website development for 2014?
