Membership userid stored as a number not a GUID

Hi,
I have membership setup. But when I create a user the userid field in my DB just stores a number not a GUID. For example the first user userid in my DB is simply "1" the second is simply "2" and so on. I was expecting a GUID instead. Any ideas?
