How to generate Random alphanumber start with specific character

Hi,
I have made a form and I want to generate random alphanumberic start with DO example:
DO001 when I submit the form, then again if I submit the form it will generate DO002 and so on. I read that It should be done using append I didn't get that.
How can I do this? any help tutorial link please?
