Pardon a possibly dumb question, but -- I just fired up a new server with Windows 2012 as the OS.  When adding the IIS role, I was prodded to install the Web Platform Installer to make everything else easy.  (Rainbows and unicorns.)  So I did, but the most recent version of SQL Server Express handled by the installer was 2008 R2, whereas the latest on the Microsoft website for direct download is 2014.  Why is that?  Is there a good reason to avoid the latest version or use an older one?
