protect against attacks through forms using Captcha??

hi,
I have a website where visitors can send a message through a contact form
also where a user can register and create an account on the site.
Could anyone suggest quick  and effective solution and links for preventing spam, dos attacks
like CAPTCHA

Secondly, for internal forms when user is logged in this should not be necessary?
