How do I add text in drop down box

I have a list of cities in my drop down box and I want to know how to add a region on top of a group of city

--Region1--
city1
city2
city3
--Region2--
city4
city5
.....
and so on

and I want the Regions just for listing and grouping .. not to be selectable in the drop down

please help
