asp.net site Vs sharpoint site?why use sharpoint site

In sharepoint many of the items are ready to use(tailor made) but we need to build from scratch in case of asp.net site.

But most of the development we do in sharepoint will not fully supported by the browsers like Chrome, Safari, opera etc. It works well with IE.

We can even do some of the Business Intelligence related activities through sharepoint.

ASP.Net is used to build any broswer based application from scratch. each and everything you need to code .
where as in sharepoint lots of functionality is readymade.
so it is more configuration and on top of it customization can be done using ASP.NET.

but sharepoint is more on cost as well. so it is used only if you need lot of functionality.

You have to start from scratch
You can use any browser
Deployment is easy
We have to provide the Right management
SharePoint:
Basic website is provided
For better performance you have to you IE as some of the functionality will work with it only
Deployment is bit difficult
Rights management is provided by the SharePoint
