Calling scanner and printer that is connected to system

Hi
im developing a windows application
There are two buttons 1)print 2)scan
when i click on print first it has to check that any printers are connected to the system and next it has to ask number of pages or no of copies and all...

same for scanning first it must check the availability and then it has to connect to scanner and scan the images

how to connect these to ports?
