How we implement the keypress event in asp.net

Hi Friends

i am working on a bill scanning web application and i have to scan bar code in it so i need a best and fast way to implement keypress event in asp.net because there is around 10 barcode values enter in the around 3 to 5 second and i have to show scanning status as well. please explain in detaillllllllll
