error when connect oracle 8i client to oracle 10g

when i test connection from ODBC Driver configuration then display message "unable connect SQLState=S1000[oracle][odbc][ora]error while trying to retrive text for error ora-12541"

but i can connect to using SQLPLUSW from run command.

i want to connect oracle 8i client to oracle 10g server .
