how can we increase the perfrmance of dataset

Hi All,

This is about dataset. I want retrieve 1000 records from the database. these much records are retrieving the dataset performance will be slow. Why i am choosing dataset is i want modify some data in records.So I want increase the performance of dataset.
Any body help me...

0	1000 is not much if you wrote your query correct and if you have indexes on the unique fields in the database. If you are going to display this on the gridview, you must consider paging the grid.
