we refered this link to implement in to the grid view in our project. But your's is Datalist.

Can you pls refer, if you get something out of it. Pls ignore, if you saw this already!

UpdatePanel is one of the best way to accomplish your task.
try to use DataList in updatePanel which will work smartly without any postback but be confirm that your website must be ASP.net AJAX enable website while using update panel.
