Regarding PostBack triggers in the update panel

Actually I have place my dropdownlist in the update panel,in order to avoid some refresh in the page.But if I do so the error message which i got for some other reasons still remains in the page.If I use the post backtrigger the page gets refreshed.Is there any way to avoid the error message.Can anyone help me out
