I am getting the following error. What to be done to resolve?

Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster.

Try to set EnableViewStateMac="false", if that doesn't solve your problem, go through this post http://www.dotnetfunda.com/forums/thread8140-how-to-solve-this-error.aspx.

EnableViewStateMac="false" resolved the issue but not sure why we should put this.
